The Oak and the Sugarcane

In this huge world
It is surprising to see,
We are the size of ants
But we accept superiority with glee.

In this huge world,
There was a tiny place
Fantastical to every boy and girl,
Filled with greenery and sunny days.

In this huge world,
And in this tiny place,
Lived a sugarcane and an oak,
Who once met each other’s gaze.

‘In this huge world’,
The oak said with pride,
‘There is none bigger than me
And I never have reason to hide’.

‘In this huge world’,
Thought the humble sugarcane.
Who chose silence as a reply,
‘Disguise is useless for someone so vain.

In this huge world,
Nature plays a bigger part.
She called upon a ferocious storm
As the words she heard had pricked her heart.

In this huge world
And in this tiny place,
The storm showed no mercy
And did not slacken its pace.

In this huge world,
To the oak who once arrogantly defied,
Weakness and disguise,
Life was at once denied.

In this huge world,
When the whirling winds arrived
To strike the sugarcane,
Miraculously, it survived.

In this huge world,
Where tales are often told.
Forgive me for boring you,
But good tales are often retold.

....written when I was in IX standard
