My Dear 猿

こんにちは。

On the Ides of last August
arrived someone to whom I must
dedicate my words of song
and hope that they belong
to one of her favourites.
She is a very spirited
soul, sometimes misunderstood.
To list her successes would
fill books, yet it was not that
facet that drew me, just that
I wanted to know her more. She
then removed the mask for me
and I can honestly say
that has indeed made my day.
She is a remarkably
selfless person who ably
assists me in my distress.
The one thing which has impressed
me much is her lack of ego.
She can take advice and let go
so easily. Self - esteem
is so high, nearly a dream.
Even though she's so deep, she's so
childish as well. That's so
great 'cause we share so much
together. Laughs, giggles and lunch.
Secrets, jokes, messages and
more. I never thought me and
my best friend would get along
so well. Our jokes to belong
only to ourselves. I'm glad
she likes my stories and had
given a ear to all of my
worries. She is different, my
dear honourable reader,
yet she is the same. We're enantiomers.
Non-superimposable mirror images!

Beauty and the Beast

My teeth may not be perfect, yet I smile...
My laugh may not be sweet, yet I'll oblige...
My handwriting may not be great, yet I write...
My singing may not be beautiful, yet I try...
My walk may be ludicrous, yet I run...
My sense of humour may be in delay, yet I have fun....

Because...

However ugly my characteristics may be,
There is a bit of my beautiful soul in these actions you see.

An Autobiography

The first time I opened my eyes

I saw a glowing globe rise
which threw light on the extensive
beautiful blue blanket that did give
the exquisite envelope fit
for the gifts of God beneath it.
Lord, I beseech ye to keep that place
as I saw it during the phase
of my life which felt wonder and
admired the greenery of the land.
I also recollect my first
taste of water; all thought of thirst
forgotten; the feel of rain,
the pulse of ecstasy coursing my vein.
I thus embraced the seeds of life
and promised not to cause strife
among the benevolent creatures
that adorn the magnificent features
of Earth. Months passed by and I grew tall
enough to make out a high wall.
I rose up and up, high above.
Every strand of hair does blow
with every gust of the fast wind.
My heart felt so heavy and pinned
against its confines for not being
able to see the sun heaving
its shining self across the sky,
nor the celestial Luna, high
up, making herself move all the way
across the gem-laden night. May
thunder or lightning race about,
I cared for nothing except about
seeing the world over the wall.
I stretched my arms and stood tall
on my toes and slowly worked my
body towards the top. With a sigh,
a pant and a lunge, I worked thus.
Suddenly, I felt that I must
do something else as well-worth,
something to add joy and mirth.
Soon, I was bounded by colour
which gave me the strength to harbour
failures I encountered while
trying to scale the wall, so high.

At last! I did it! I did it!
My head burst over the sunlit
side of the wall and knew nothing
but ecstasy that is lingering
even today. But then something happened
that made me feel uneasy, dampened.
Each breath became heavier than
the last. The colours grew blurred and
my deep crystal clear vision
grew worse. I lost my sense of mission.
I felt a cloud of black surround
me. My eyes weighed a thousand pounds.
After that, I remembered nothing,
heard nothing, saw nothing, felt nothing.

When my overwrought eyes opened
again, I thought what a God – send
it was to just be able to breathe
peacefully. I realized
I was imprisoned. My on-the-heal
mind told me so. But I did not feel
suffocated and that was sufficient.

I have lain here since. On the
eve of my hundredth year, a child read the
writing on my transparent wall,
‘Tree – extinct specie’ and that is all.

The Oak and the Sugarcane

In this huge world
It is surprising to see,
We are the size of ants
But we accept superiority with glee.

In this huge world,
There was a tiny place
Fantastical to every boy and girl,
Filled with greenery and sunny days.

In this huge world,
And in this tiny place,
Lived a sugarcane and an oak,
Who once met each other’s gaze.

‘In this huge world’,
The oak said with pride,
‘There is none bigger than me
And I never have reason to hide’.

‘In this huge world’,
Thought the humble sugarcane.
Who chose silence as a reply,
‘Disguise is useless for someone so vain.

In this huge world,
Nature plays a bigger part.
She called upon a ferocious storm
As the words she heard had pricked her heart.

In this huge world
And in this tiny place,
The storm showed no mercy
And did not slacken its pace.

In this huge world,
To the oak who once arrogantly defied,
Weakness and disguise,
Life was at once denied.

In this huge world,
When the whirling winds arrived
To strike the sugarcane,
Miraculously, it survived.

In this huge world,
Where tales are often told.
Forgive me for boring you,
But good tales are often retold.

A fearful malady

As the sun sets in the west,

it sends out its last rays, the best
sight that cheers me as I lie
in bed. I let myself sigh.
I really have faced a few
times in the sick bed and do rue
this latest malady that
Struck me this June, just like that
I moan as I remember
the ways I tried to ward her
away from me. I drummed away on
the keyboard; high scores are born.
My nose is an inch apart
from the monitor. My heart
then feels a misgiving. So,
I devise a new cure. With more
ado, I flip channels. I
feel snug in the arms of my
favourite stars on Disney.
Alas! She striketh poor me
again! Lady Malady, show
some pity. Resigned, I move
into the study. Armed with
the most spectacular myth
of Ulysees, I relax
into my chair. It still lacks
the power to repel my disease.
It rears its head again. Please
stop! Yet it struck me when the
hero finally met the
long-missed family. I then
turned on music. This was when
The Lady Malady was
just beside me, the cause
apparently being due
to me hearing, not the new,
but the oft-heard songs. With great
deftness, she swept me into my state
of despair. Oh noble reader,
before you scold me or Her,
let me bestow her proper name,
she has earned eternal fame,
for she is the Lady BOREDOM.
I certainly owe you some
thanks for staying till the end,
having precious time to lend,
‘cause you helped me drive away,
the so fearful Malady!

Ode to First 4 Silver

It certainly is a dreary day

when we have to go our separate way
after four years of happiness and pain,
after all those losses and those gains
after those friendships and hardships
after those successes and those slips.
Twenty five years have elapsed since then
for PSG Tech ’84 brethren.
As waves of nostalgia crash upon the
ocean of thoughts now, First 4 Silver, the
successful unique reunion
has most definitely achieved its mission
by bringing together so many,
nearly a hundred batchmates and family.
The Herculean tasks of oiling rusty
links and forging new ones, dusting musty
autograph books and contacting one
and all, planning the show and the fun
was accomplished by the skilled alumni
Kudos! to those who pushed these dreams sky high.
Yet the day for them to separate
is at hand again. But with batchmates
exchanging contacts and emails now.
it is fairly evident to all by now,
it is not the mere beginning of the end,
rather it is the dawn of a fresh beginning.
